If all Christians believed the same thing life would be so much easier. If we all sang from the same hymn sheet the church would be in a better place and our mission would be so much easier. If…Continue

What If I've been Hurt by the Church?

As far as I know there aren't too many people that have been hurt by the church worldwide. In fact there aren't that many people that have been hurt by complete individual churches. However, when most people say that they've been hurt by the church they really mean they've been hurt by a particular individual or small group of individuals within a church. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't make the hurt any less real or…

What if Attacks on Christianity don't really stand up to closer inspection?

This blog is longer than my usual blogs so please bear with me. It comes in response to a PowerPoint that some of you may have seen called Why Won't God Heal Amputees? In it a very patronising case is put forward using 10 questions that they want intelligent Christians to answer. The assumption being that if an intelligent Christian used their brains in answering these questions the only conclusion that they could come to is…

What If I'd have to change too much to become a Christian?

Many people are happy with their lives. They may like to change one or two things but on the whole they are content with their lot. They have their routines and they like them it gives them security and structure to their lives. They know they are not perfect but they've never killed anyone and anyway they like their little forays into the world of doing wrong. It can be exciting, freeing and helps them to fit in to a world where, let's face it, nobody is perfect. We're not…

Hi Nathan,

God has blessed me with a job recently. Even in the midst of a storm, if we crawl up on his lap and listen to his whispers everything will calm down. Faith is a mighty strong 5 letter word.  He is moving for all of us whose name is written on the palm of his hand.

I assume you have the link too but just in case - here it is:

http://community.maxlucado.com/profiles/blogs/what-if-attacks-on

In the article, Max poses 10 questions to thinking atheists that many thinking Christians could easily answer and all thinking atheists should be able to respond to.
They are questions that the uniformed find intruiguing (my faithful mother). :)
but if examined, open up a wider door of inquiry.

We are on holiday today & I'm going ice skating with my kids (wife will watch)
Have a good evening - Tom

Hi Nathan -  I agree - the length of time between days in Genesis.
I read a very good article on how the Vatican reconciled science with Genesis. I'm not Catholic but was impressed.
I have 3 thoughtful Christian children who think for themselves & ask hard questions.
Have a good day - Tom

Hi Nathan - thanks for the info. I was reading the Max's article on science not standing up to scrutiny (aged earth etc).  It takes more faith for me to accept this rationale than to accept the science and adjust my Biblical understanding. Similar to accepting an Earth centered universe against all evedence.
There is more than "beyond reasonable doubt" evedence that the earth is old and life has been around a long time.  Again it takes more faith for me to accept that God would create ready made light beams from stars so distant.  It does't make sense that God would give the Earth the appearance of old but is actually young.
Christianity will have to be adjusted to science to stay relavent or will go by the wayside with the Amish and other uneducated sects.
I guess my concern is that it is misleading to our community to argue against the preponderance of evedence.  Reconciliation will have to be done or smart educated youth will continue to drift away.
Thanks- Tom
