Questions About Our Community

We'll use this page to try and address some of the more frequently asked questions we receive. If you've got a question you think should be addressed here please click here to report the issue.

How do I get videos on the site? You cannot upload videos to the site, but you can 'Embed' them from another site. What that means is that you are able to view the video on this site while the other site still hosts the video file. You can do this in any text field on the site, especially Discussion or Blog posts. When you are typing your post you can simply insert the code to embed video from whatever site you wish. For example, on YouTube, to the right of the video you will see a section with a couple links in it, one of them is labled 'Embed'. Select and copy the text in that field and paste it in your post. There you have it.

I've joined the "Private" group, which is supposed to be a closed group, but my comments there are showing on my page! These are supposed to be private, aren't they? If you are part of a private group and visit another users page who is also part of that group you will see their activity in the private group on your page. This is because you are part of the group as well and therefore have permission to see it. If another user who was not part of the group visited that same page, they would not see the information in the feed because they do not have the right "permissions."

What can a "friend" do that other members of The Max Lucado Community cannot do? Your friends can send you private messages through the community. Besides them, this is something only the Administrators can do. You can also set your content—videos, photos, blog posts—to be viewable by "Just My Friends" rather than by the network at large. You'll find many other features throughout the site that utilize your friends list. This isn't MySpace or Facebook...you not in some sort of contest to see how many friends you can accumulate here. We encourage you to use the friends feature as a tool to help manage your interactions on the site.

How do privacy settings for pictures and albums work? Privacy settings are picture specific not album specific. In fact your albums can contain not just your pictures, but any pictures you have permission to access on the entire Max Lucado Community system. So, for example, you could create a photo album for an event you attended and include other people's pictures from the event in that album. Those individual pictures privacy settings would then be applied to the album so that a user viewing the album would only be able to see pictures that they were supposed to see. Albums are a way of grouping pictures and do not affect the privacy of the pictures.

How can I check to see if there are people out here in my area to connect with? I think the best way to do this is using the Search. On certain pages the Search is content sensitive, which you'll see that on the button itself. If you go to the Members page and search, it will search through all the members. The other option is the Site Search that is on all pages, which obviously will search the whole site. I live in Texas, so if I want to find peeps in Texas I search for 'Texas' as well as 'TX' from different pages. The results vary, but leave me with enough information that I can see most everyone from Texas. Members do not have to list where they are from so unless they leak that info out in a blog or discussion, you won't be able to find them. They just may want it that way, and that's ok. Try searching different pages. Or search the Groups and see if there are any 'located' in your area. Or maybe better yet, you could also create your own group with the intent for people in your area to join it.

Max, I'm a Chritian Psalmist, and have been touched by the story of "Mathew Huffman" at the bottom of page 22 of And The Angels Where Silent, it touched me so deeply that I wrote a song about Mathew called "Reaching for Jesus Hand". I wanted to tell you about it and assure you your book will be cited any time this song is performed or recorded. I thank You for being such an inspuration to me and so many others. God Bless You Pastor.

How to start a blog? Here you go!
To get started, go to your profile page and locate the "Blog Posts" module in the middle column. Click the "Add a Blog Post" link.

You can add text, links, images, and files to your blog post using the blog editor toolbar. You can also select the privacy of your blog post to allow anyone on the social network to view it, just your friends on the social network, or just you.

Sounds good. I'll create the group and use my 2 Lucado reviews as the first 2 topics. :)
Dave Schroeder Comment by Dave Schroeder on January 22, 2010 at 4:56pm
Mimi,
You can create any group you like! The idea is to bring Lucado readers together to discuss topics and his books but also if there are other affinities with location, similar likes, book reviews of other authors, etc., go for it! Dave Schroeder from the Lucado Team

Can we create "Groups" for anything? Are there guidelines for the types of groups the Creators of this site had in mind? What about a Christian Book Review & Giveaway Group?
Dave Schroeder Comment by Dave Schroeder on January 22, 2010 at 10:24am
Beryl, I don't think so. We don't ask people for their specific birthday, just their age range.
Beryl Angaka Comment by Beryl Angaka on January 22, 2010 at 10:19am
Does this community have birthday alerts?

If Jesus Christ was humane, how come we have never heard of his romantic life, or is it that the writers of the gospels deliberately left that issue?
Cathy Lee Durham Comment by Cathy Lee Durham on January 20, 2010 at 8:10am
Looking forward to hearing from other Christians. Will upload a picture later.
