Romans 15: 13 remarks, " May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Isn't it a good thing that this verse is meant for you? The words JOY and PEACE are combined with the marvelous word ALL
Having experienced this gift, here comes the creative writing exercise:
How should it be described?
It could be compared to a passing of the baton in a relay race. Once that item has been given to the next runner, you don't have to run any more. Catching your breath is part of this peace.
It could be compared to bullet proof glass. You can see through the glass at the determined incoming attack. The protection takes the brunt of the ill will without transmitting that energy onto you.
It could be compared to armed guards. One of the most upsetting things about depression is painful thinking. "No one cares. "..." I can't do anything right." These thoughts need to be fought. After awhile of trying to remove these thoughts by sheer will power alone, fatigue sets in. This peace has punch to it. God cares. Your Heavenly Father sent Jesus because NO ONE could get it right. Now we don't have to perfectly produce rightousness. We are covered by His perfection.
It could be compared to this beautiful place in nature. Everything there belongs. Each element adds its own contribution. One of the most painful things in our culture is exclusion. It used to be that only the most drastic social behaviors would induce anathema (outcasting). Now all that is required for it is a pair of earphones and an ipod. In God's kingdom, your presence is absolutely necessary. His world doesn't work right without you! Hey, did you know that? You have a gift to give that no one else has. You belong! No one can take your place away from you. No one can threaten your status. It's not possible to influence God to change His mind. He's crazy about you!
Lastly, peace could be compared to a [working] parent/child relationship. God is the perfect parent. If your childhood was lackluster, it'll take some time to get comfortable with that. The parent spends/gives for the benefit of the child. The child enjoys the protection and guidance of the parent. Who wants to figure out quantum mechanics?!! Isn't it much better to have the Holy Spirit position you for success? Why would you try to wear out your brain designing the best future when God already is with you tomorrow and wants to give you the advantage of His perspective?
When I nearly got ran over by a car this past week and didn't because God moved me just in time, I could have freaked out. The car was a couple of inches away from ending my life. God knew exactly where to place me so that I would be spared from someone's choices. I'm not in a hospital bed today because I am walking in the Spirit. The peace that is in my heart is a teary, grateful song of determined surrender. I will let Him position me again. Not only did it spare me the pain and suffering of that accident, it's such a relief not to have to figure everything out. Maybe you'll let God have a bit more operating room in your life. You won't regret it!

Yesterday, my daughter needed to stay home from school. It turned into a beautiful, love filled experience as we talked, shared and dreamed together. My preteen for once was accessible - and I for once wasn't puttering around the house - and well, Thank You, Lord!

Permalink Reply by Juline Bruck on February 8, 2011 at 10:19am Good morning, Sister Mia!
One of the things I most enjoy about you is that you really are living the Sister/Brother part of our faith. The apostles' creed states "I believe in the Communion of Saints." You most exactly resemble that in my mind more than anyone else I know. I don't know if someone has told you that lately. You should know! Oh, and as for that blessing? I already put that in my life. It's busy already!! Thank you!!
Juline,
First, I am grateful to God that you were spared harm and serious injury.
Your illustrations resonated with the heart and the journey taken in the last two weeks. I have always been a bit afraid to paint as my late mother in law was such a great artist. I took a watercolor class, and I found the trees I painted and the stream and the rocks all have their imperfections but when together all have their place and bring out the beauty of their surroundings. My accomplishment of the class is a water lily I made copies of and turned into stationary. I'm also working on other flowers.
The summer with the family health challenges taught me when you give God more operating room and realize he's in control you life can be one of peace .
Thanks for blessing us with this post. Rose
