I attend church here in Utah.  The church is called The LIghthouse.  On Saturdays Pastor Mike

goes to preach at the jail.  Sunday I asked if I could go and he said no.  Since then I have dreamed of going to the jail and giving my testimony.  Right now I just want to be able to tell someone my testimony and then Jesus will do the rest.  Right now I understand there is some kind of test involved.   I feel I will be able to do this by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Have you asked him why you can't? I have a friend who attends Lighthouse in England and many of their youth group go to 'shut ins' but you have to remember that there are many ways of being shut in. Physically disabled, mentally disabled as well as conditions such as agrophobia. Have you thought of doing something like this, it doesn't have to be through a church if you feel they are holding you back, but in most countries there are organisations who would be only too pleased to have someone who can visit these people.
If a pastor says "no," then that would be a pastor I would watch like a hawk, because he's got ulterior motives up his sleeve, and is not to be trusted as a godly man.

Hi all,

I agree I would ask why.  But I would not immeadiatly denounce the paster as trying to do something shady.  I do not beleive all of the information is there.  Ask your pastor why he does not think its a good idea.  ask him what recomendations he suggests and if he could train you to start in this prison ministry.

Too may people look for the worse in a situation.  Rely on God to provide the answer.

Also if he's saying no, he could be afraid of situations and isn't relying on God.  Or of course he could be miffed that someone else came up with the idea and not himself.  When I first came here I was linked with a Ukrainian pastor and if someone came up with an idea he hadn't thought of he immediately said no.  If asked why his answer was 'I am your pastor you will do what I say.'  In other words he tried to drive his sheep instead of lead them.  The first time this happened was when we started getting wary of him and we had split with him within the year.
I agree,  I have an awsome pastor.  His name is Pastor Mike.  I attenda church in indianapolis indiana call westlake church of God.  We are starting down a path of outreach.  Instead of staying inside the 4 walls of the church we are starting to to reach out to the community and trying to find out what we can do to help.  HE has guided us not with a rod but with gentle nudges.  He wants the people in the church to be the teachers and the evangelists and the workers in the field.  If we have an idea he says run with it.  Go do it.  I wont stand in your way.  I think a pastor that is controlling is a paster that is concerned with how he looks and sounds.  Our pastor makes mistakes,  he will tell you that.  The most important thing is, he realizes that a pastor is human as well.
Any person, Christian or otherwise, who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.
