The Lord talked to me about reaching out to ladies who are in process of divorce, have gone through divorce, or are just plain lonely about 36 years ago, I have tried to learn about how to help, read books, studied his word, and prayed, I've not always accomplished wat I thought I should but his gracde is sufficient for me.
I like to help children. At the various holidays when there are those that gather to give to those in need, I like to find a child that wants anything Pooh. Pooh means a lot to me and so to be able to share it with a child, and to let that child know that others want to help and share, gives a good example. I also like to give to the elderly in nursing homes. Many are forgotten, or might have what seems a small need (a pair of warm slippers, a pair of mittens for fingers with little circulation, etc) means a lot to me.
We have expanded our congregational care ministry to include preparing CD's of the church service for anyone homebound or in care facilities who would like to have a copy. We also provide walkmans or boom boxes on loan should they need them to play the CD's on. We have some businesses who work in partnership with us and provide what we need at cost.
I was registered with the bone marrow donor's group through work the other day. My sis kept telling me, do you know how painful it is to donate marrow? I told her that death could be more painful, and that this way, I could maybe help heal someone in more ways than one! My marrow came to me from God, and if by giving it, I can help someone heal their body and be believing that someone would to this for them, maybe help God in healing their heart, the pain would be worth it. Wasn't the pain worth it for Jesus?
Jeremy Camp has a song out that kind of addresses this: "We are speaking louder than before." And we need to. To hear on the news that the youth of today have lower numbers of believers than ever before is frightening. We need to speak louder and use their tools to get them to listen and show them how to believe. Fantastic way to go about it, Steve!

Our ministry reaches out by traveling to towns throughout Texas holding Christian concerts in city parks. We took it to heart when I read the following comment by Billy Graham:

The "message" of the Gospel never changes - and for good reason: God never changes, and neither does our basic spiritual need nor His answer to that need. But the "methods" of presenting that message do change - and in fact they must change if we are to keep pace with a changing world. If we fail to bridge the gap between us, and those we hope to reach, our message will not be communicated, and our efforts will be in vain. Tami,

Have you ever made blessing bags to share with children or at the nursing homes? Will send you info if you're interested.

Kennedy, Could you share with us some ways you are reaching out? I'd like to hear some of your ideas and suggestions.

Blessings, Rose
That sounds like an interesting idea, sure, if you would, give me some ideas.

Hi Tami,

Blessing bags start as a lunch bag with holes punched in to place ribbon. The fromt is decorated any way you like. (I usually iron on fabric which has fusible web.) Inside there is a puzzle book, pen, pencil, small stuffed animal, tissue pack, six mints and an instant cocoa packet or tea bag. We put a note indicated the bag was made for them by the people of First UMC. Everything is put in the bag and the ribbon tied in a bow. They have been well received by Hospice patients and young kids in the hospital.

Will post a photo of one on my page the next time we put some together.

Rose
