Early in Feb. 2011, I will visit and stay three nights at a Monastery.

Has anyone had this experieced in the past?

I stayed for a long weekend in a convent some years ago, it was a great experience.  It was an enclosed order, but the nuns were more worldly wise than many ordinary people

The Monastery is located in Kentucky. Where was the convent that you stayed?

My stay will be a first for me...but one that I look forward to the experience.

In the Malvern Hills in England.  It was so refreshing to be able to concentrate on God's word and will without outside ;'interference'.  We also kept the nuns times for getting up and going to bed as well as going to services and talks.  I came away very refreshed, spiritually AND physically.  No television, no radio and we were asked not to bring radios or tape players with us so, as I say, we had no outside interference.  They also had large grounds looking out onto the Malverns so we could go for walks after talks etc and discuss them among ourselves.  At the next meeting we could ask anything that had come to us while we were walking and praying.

I appreciate your response. When you mentioned Malvern Hills, I smiled.

My hometown is Philadelphia, Outside Philadelphia is the town of Malvern, the site of a large Catholic retreat center that is attended by thousands throughout the year. In 1996, I was invited to attend a weekend men's retreat at Malvern, near Phila. This was quite a treat for me as I grew up in Phila., in a large Catholic community, hearing about the Malvern retreat center from many of our neighbors and friends. It was an experience that will always be remembered fondly. In 1996 about 10-15% of the men attending the retreat were not Catholics.....so we Protestants felt very welcomed and enjoyed our "after-hours" talks with men of all faiths.

This desire to soon attend a Monastery for three nights is a direct result of my positive experience in 1996 at Malvern. Malvern, a name that means something to both of us!! :-)

Perhaps there's a reason God put us in touch via this page.
