Hey guys, I was reading a chapter on evolution vs. creationism yesterday in The Reason For God and while I have my personal opinions on that, I felt led to read Genesis chapter 2 about God's creation of man... My question is why would an all knowing, all powerful God who would know the future and understand in advance all things that would happen purposefully put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden of Eden and tell Adam and Eve to not partake from it when he knew that they would? Why would God create man knowing that man would become fallen and have to live apart from him and why would God create the world when he knew that due to this fall of ours that there would be so much suffering in the world and there would ultimately be death, destruction and gnashing of teeth?

I am not trying to be facitious, so bear with me.

Why would He create the angels, knowing that some were going to fall?

If I learned one thing from reading The Shack, is that He believes in free will.

And maybe, since He does know all, and knew that this would happen, that it was part of what makes up the end.

this might not make much sense, but I am trying very hard to learn that I cannot control much of anything except what I feel and believe, and so this is where these free range thoughts have lead me with regards to your question.
Ok so you've got this God in three persons. He is a God of Love, he is a God that is supremely powerful and also supremely creative. He is also a God who believes in relationship and loves to be worshipped, adored and glorified. He decides to put His creative powers to work. Now, He has a choice - does he create a perfect world where everyone worships him and gives Him the glory He deserves or does he create giving His creation the option of worshipping Him or not. If everyone worships Him because they have no option what worship is that - He may well have made robot. However if He creates a people with a choice and they chose to worship him is that not what he requires. If our children do things because we force them to do them we gain no satisfaction but if they do something good out of their own choosing it makes us feel great.

You are right that God knew the end from the beginning. He knew that man would fall and suffer and die. But He also knew the true end that one day He would be surrounded by His creation who all chose, out of the free-will that He has given them, to worship Him.
