Not in the Name of Jesus

When the UK went to war with Iraq many people demonstrated their opposition to it under the banner of "Not in My Name".  I'm thinking that there may be a need for Christians to form a "Not in the Name of Jesus" group.

When Harold Camping was giving false prophesy about the coming of the rapture where was the voice of Christian truth lovingly telling the world they this man was in error. Harold Camping got a lot of publicity that would result in making Christians seem incompetent, deluded and down right wrong.

When the UK went to war with Iraq many people demonstrated their opposition to it under the banner of "Not in My Name".  I'm thinking that there may be a need for Christians to form a "Not in the Name of Jesus" group. We need to stand up and be counted when people do things in the name of Jesus that just aren't right. Isn't it about time we shouted out that predicting the return of Christ is un-biblical? Isn't it time to say that burning the holy books of other religions is not what Jesus would have us do? Otherwise the only Christian voice some people will hear is the voice of hatred, confusion, evil and deception, all done in the name of Jesus.

I have no idea how this can be achieved but my starting place is here.

What is the difference between being discerning and being judgemental? The Bible calls us to be one and not the other - can can we be sure not to confuse the two?

Hi Everyone

Well, it's been quite a journey. I'm sure all have you have been informed that as of the end of this month the Max Lucado Community will be closing down. It was with great sadness that I heard the news, as I'm sure it was with many of you. I have built up some great friendships through this community, learn a huge amount and been drawn closer to God by many of you.  So, firstly I'd like to thank you all for getting involved here, your friendship, wisdom, patience and faith. I hope many of us will stay in touch. For me the best way to do this would be through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AThoughtfor2day or my blog  http://achristianthoughtfortoday.wordpress.com/ I'm sure we'll also connect through the new things that the Lucado team are launching in the near future.

Thanks for journeying with me - I've really enjoyed it and much appreciate your friendships.

Every Possible Blessing

Nathan

Rosemarie, that is great.  I'll keep her in my prayers, that she can continue what she has started.

That's great Rose.  I've found that often we will sew a tiny seed then someone else feeds and waters it.  I had a young man come up to me last year when I was in England and tell me 'You don't remember me do you.  You gave me my first Bible.'  I always have Bibles at home so when he said he didn't have one I gave him the one I had with me.  He is now leading a street youth ministry.  As I say, I gave him the seed and someone else fed and watered it.  I'll continue to pray for her.

Patricia,

Kimberly, the young lady I spoke of, is in Bible study and hanging around with friends and attending their youth groups.

Thanks for your prayers,

Rose

it is difficult when it is a teen, and I think the dogmatic side is worse than the indifferent.  Tell her that the Bible is straight forward, there are no codes and mostly nothing to interprete.  What it says is.  I get castigated by some Christians, because I drink occasionally, they say I shouldn't be drinking at all.  I point to Jesus first miracle and the fact that he drank and was criticised for it.  I am then told that the wine then was different.  They can't actually tell me how it was different, but it was different.  Tell her that we have to go by what the Bible says, not what we want it to say.  Also the Bible was written for simple people, fishermen etc, not for scholers.  Try to get this through to her, then, if she'll let you, start finding readings that speak to her situation.  I have had some very funny ideas by people over here, including a neighbour who keeps telling completely different to what is obviously meant by the written word.  TTL she now comes and asks me.  Hope these few ideas help.

A teen I know  claims to be Christian-ish and s disillusioned with the end time prophesies.  How do we begin to create a positive voice for her when her parents have left and desire no return to the faith and her grandparents have become so dogmatic that their message becomes overwhelming to her?  She has asked me for help and so far I'm praying with her and lifting her in prayer.

A lot of Christians on Face Book did write saying that Mr Camping was wrong and why, quoting from the Bible.  The problem is that in these circumstances it is only people who are registered as 'friends' who read the posts.  TTL I have quite a few friends on there who are not Christians and they also put posts on which started by Christian friend/aunt/cousin says that Harold Camping can't be right even by their standards because ... and putting in what I have said, so it did spread a bit.
