Hi Everyone

Well, it's been quite a journey. I'm sure all have you have been informed that as of the end of this month the Max Lucado Community will be closing down. It was with great sadness that I heard the news, as I'm sure it was with many of you. I have built up some great friendships through this community, learn a huge amount and been drawn closer to God by many of you.  So, firstly I'd like to thank you all for getting involved here, your friendship, wisdom, patience and faith. I hope many of us will stay in touch. Wow, I've made so little tangible progress in the last 3 months.  But I have joined Rest Ministries Sunroom, and it's amazing what daily support will for your spirit.  Most of the distractions that I allow I think are a cover for my fear of failure, and even more severe, my fear of success.  With a number of people encouraging me, on all the little details (and big ones) of life, and I encourage them in return, I feel uplifted enough to begin stepping out.  I have been working on drafts of several posts on my blog recently, and with increasing regularity.  My relationship with God grows as my relationship with others of faith who care grows.

Tracy, I will keep you in prayer that you do draw closer to God this year.

A good idea when you get up after an attack is to say 'Right Lord, what did I do wrong this time.  What didn't I listen to.'

I need to learn in 2012 to stop getting distracted by side-projects and to focus on God, my relationship with Him, and what He would have me do with what I believe is a gift, and therefore an obligation to Him, to write.  My fledgling blog has been getting enough attention for me to add 1 new post a month - I feel that I need to do 1/wk (then take that irreversible step and publicize its existence), and then there's the novel started about a decade ago, and there's whatever I need to listen for and be open to.

I am chronically ill, which keeps me out of a regular routine; and I have 2 young adult children who live with me - 1 who needs to slow down and think about how he spreads his wings, the other who needs to be shoved from the nest a bit.  BUT, I can certainly do better than I have been.

Direction for 2012?  Listen to God and make like the Nike commercial ...

Jim, Keeping you in Prayer as you move forth in service to our Lord through your church.  Patricia is so right that the Devil uses means that ever surprise you.  Keep grounded in the word and know that God has lifted all of us and helped us dust the dirt off our feet and move on. Blessings, Rose

Amen sister Patricia i so agree with you! I was informed by our pastor about 6 months ago that i was next in line to be an elder at our church. Pastor josh also warned me that i would be attacked by the enemy in all 360 degrees trying to keep from becoming an elder, and he was so right. I have to be honset and say that i have struggled and failed on several occasion but i keep getting up and asking God for guidence. God is amazing and he loves us and looks forward to being there for us when we stumble.

The nearer you get to God, the more temptation you will get, it is, after all, a spiritual war we're talking about.  You have to learn to discern spiritual attacks and pray even harder for His help and learn to say no, once you've recognised temptation.

I think that you become closer to God by reading His word,  participating in daily devotions, through prayer finding support in your church or in groups like this.  Also look around and see how close God can be to you!!

How do you become nearer to God when all this stuff seems to be getting in the way? It seems like I get close then am tempted by everything in this world?
