Journeying Towards Understanding

One of the things that I love about the Max Lucado Community is that it is made up of such a diverse set of Christians. I have had fellowship and learnt from Baptist, Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists and the list goes on. We come from, in some respects, very different religious backgrounds and yet I have found a real unity here.

I guess this group comes about in the light a a visit to the United Kingdom by the Pope. One thing that his visit did was raise the spiritual tempo for a while. It just made me think about the different religious backgrounds that we share and how it would be good to have a group where we can discuss them in an arena of mutual respect.

Here we can discuss anything that helps us understand the different strands of faith. What is it like to be brought up as a Christian? What is it like to be a convert from Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Atheism etc. Why do Anglicans christen babies and baptist don't? What about people from much smaller denominations or independent churches, what makes your church different? What is it like to be a Christian in a Muslim country? The questions go on and on...

Hi Everyone

Well, it's been quite a journey. I'm sure all have you have been informed that as of the end of this month the Max Lucado Community will be closing down. It was with great sadness that I heard the news, as I'm sure it was with many of you. I have built up some great friendships through this community, learn a huge amount and been drawn closer to God by many of you.  So, firstly I'd like to thank you all for getting involved here, your friendship, wisdom, patience and faith. I hope many of us will stay in touch. For me the best way to do this would be through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AThoughtfor2day or my blog  http://achristianthoughtfortoday.wordpress.com/ I'm sure we'll also connect through the new things that the Lucado team are launching in the near future.

Thanks for journeying with me - I've really enjoyed it and much appreciate your friendships.

Every Possible Blessing

Nathan

I have often had that happen. I have a friend in Canada who found the church she was attending too overbearing. When she told them she would be moving to a church nearer home she was told the church she was attending was the only real church and if she changed she would be condemned to hell. These are the type of people who really get up my nose.

Hi Sherrie,

What has worked with me is trying to understand what life experiences have shaped a person's beliefs. I try to approach what a person tells me with respect. In a Bible study class we had someone insist her examination of the Bible was the only one and she referred to two people as ignorant. He asked people to bring in commentaries the next class and we examined the passage from several different authors. She was still insistent but could admit her tone was harsh and apologized, agreeing to disagree with others in the class. What could have caused lomgstanding harsh feelings turned instead into a time of learning, acceptance of differences and forgiveness.

I am sure there are reasons we all find ourselves in different "group" or denominations. I am confident many find themselves wherever Mom and Dad went to church.
What has worked when faced with a complete disagreement with someone about what a passage is telling us?

thanks for the invite to this group one thing all of have to note with all the questions that come up is that we are all members of one body like the bible states in the book of 1corint and every part of the body has a part to play for the easy coordination and if one part is hurt then the whole body feels it may the almighty bless all of you
