Through my eyes by FFH
If you could only see yourself through my eyes
You would finally get a glimpse of
You would probably be surprised to find
You're good enough
If you could only see yourself through my eyes
You would surely be convinced of
You would probably be amazed to find
You're worth my love
Read thru those words again, and really think about them. I know that I beat myself up, don’t have a good self image, but it isn’t only me that created it. There are so many misconceptions that we wind up wearing over ourselves that we can’t see ourselves clearly. I was “that farmer’s daughter,” “the fat one,” “the one with the moles.” Labels. And they only represent part of the whole, but they are what get fixated upon. You’ve heard the expression, “looking at the world thru rose-colored glasses?” Well, we all view ourselves thru smudged, cracked, chipped, bent glasses, and so can’t see the real person. Look at the health problems in the world today because of these distorted personal views - anorexia, bulemia. We self medicate with: food, booze, drugs, sex, internet, porn. All because we can't see clearly.
I had weight loss surgery, and that really has an affect, let me tell ya! When you lose that kind of weight and that fast, that face looking back at you is the face of a stranger. You don’t have time to get to know the person thru the steps because the steps are too fast. I remember crying when I went to get new glasses, and had to ask someone to help me pick out frames, because I just couldn’t recognize that face, or even comprehend what would look alright on that stranger’s face. It was sad and scary. I had such a self image of myself, and still do, that I couldn’t merge the “gobby fat” person that I had been, with the new person in the mirror. And losing the weight was supposed to help, but again, it was so fast, that you just can’t keep up. And so I heard: “Get yourself some new pants so that you don’t have that elephant butt,” and “why’d you wear your pajamas to work?” They really were trying to be supportive, but suddenly, I had an elephant butt. Get the picture. All these over views, misconceptions and misperceptions layered over the real me and I wouldn’t have even known where to look.
Imagine if we could look at ourselves and the world thru God glasses -
Look thru my eyes by Phil Collins
There are things in life you're learning, and over time you'll see,
Because out there somewhere it's all waiting and if you keep believing,
Bridge
So don't run, don't hide, it will be alright!
You'll see, trust me, I'll be there watching over you!
Chorus
Just take a look through my eyes,
There's a better place somewhere out there!
Just take a look, through my eyes,
Everything changes,
you'll be amazed what you'll find!
If you look through my eyes!
Verse
There will be times on this journey all you'll see is darkness!
But there somewhere daylight finds you, if you keep believing!
Bridge
So don't run, don't hide, it will be alright!
You'll see, trust me, I'll be there watching over you!
Chorus
Just take a look through my eyes,
there's a better place somewhere out there!
Just take a look through my eyes,
everything changes, you'll be amazed what you'll find,
if you look through my eyes!
Bridge
All the things that you can change, there's a meaning in everything!
And you will find all you need, there's so much to understand!
We aren’t fat, or stupid, or poor, or anything else in His eyes! We are:
Psalm 139: 13-14
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
And just think of this – He is creating everyday, every time someone gets pregnant, there is another creation of His! And what did He say whenever He created?
Genesis 1:4
the light was good
Genesis 1:10
(about the land) And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:12
(about vegetation) And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:18
(separating light from dark) And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:21
(creating sea creatures) And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:25
(creating wild animals and livestock) And God saw that it was good.
But the very best!
Genesis 1:31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
All He had made, and it was very good. And we are part of that, so we are very good as well. We just need to get rid of the broken, old glasses and view ourselves thru His eyes!
Chorus (Phil Collins)
Just take a look through my eyes,
There's a better place somewhere out there!
Just take a look, through my eyes,
Everything changes,
you'll be amazed what you'll find!
If you look through my eyes!
(FFH)
If you could only see yourself through my eyes

You would probably be surprised to find
You're good enough
If you could only see yourself through my eyes

You would probably be amazed to find
You're worth my love

God inspired me to give this unto others as I feel it is most fitting towards the message that Jesus bestowed upon us.

Tami,
Your message immediately brought to mind the song "My Father's Eyes." I am a blessed child because of a loving Father and loving community members who accept me as I am.
Thanks for the beautiful, touching post.
Blessings,
Rose
