The captain is looking out of the window as the boat is being tossed back and forth on the rough seas.  A storm came upon them without warning and he’s finding it difficult to see in front of him as a dense fog has now set in…

None of the navigational and communication devices are working and there’s no way for him to tell if he’s still on course or how far he may have wandered off in reaching his next destination.

Slowly, the captain could feel his hope fading his concern not for himself but, for the crew and the boat because they’re counting on him to get them through the storm.

As the storm seemed to grow in intensity the captain could see no hope in sight however, something out of the corner of his eye has caught his attention. He rubbed his eyes… what was that? Was that a light? There it is again… it was a light!  A light shining through the storm! He knew the light that pierced the storm was from the lighthouse and it had found them! This wonderful light would direct their paths and guide him back on course. The light was welcoming, reassuring and with a huge sigh the captain knew that everything was going to be fine.

Like the story of the captain and the storm we as Christians go through the same. Our storms are the trials within our lives with the Lighthouse being our Father, the Light, Jesus Christ, and our Navigator, the Holy Spirit.

The lessons we learn from these trials are for our benefit because our Father loves us that much to show the errors in our ways and character.

As we are being changed from within the light of our Father can be seen by others.  As the scriptures state in Matthew 5:14-16: “…You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Even in the midst of our trials we are still commissioned by our Father to serve, love, encourage and support others. Where there is so much darkness… the world is in desperate need of the Light. We are those beacons of light because of the hope, peace, and joy our Father provides us even when things aren’t going well in our lives.  As stated in Luke 8:16- …

"No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.. “

What our Father has done and is continuing to do in our lives isn’t meant to stay hidden but, to be shared with the world. He has taken our broken spirit and is rebuilding us for His glory to be seen.

So, take this time and ask yourself are you being a beacon of our Father’s light? Are you serving, loving, encouraging and supporting others?  Are you sharing the hope and love you have for our Father? Is our Father the lighthouse in your life?

Rely on our Father for spiritual growth and maturity so, that the light can be seen within you.

God bless!

A thoughtful response would be that in some ways I do and some ways I don't.

I just got done having a pointed conversation with my 9 year old. WHether or not I was 'right' or 'wrong' about how I handled that particular matter, she will form her own opinion of it. Since I don't drive, taking public transportation is a necessity for me. I have a medical concern where a simple rear-ending accident would put me in daily pain. A nine year old is not necessarily going to understand debilitating back pain and hence my reasons for why I don't drive.

She would rather stay home than take an hour and a half bus ride to see the sights during summer vacation. With her new adolscence independence, she's letting me know it!

Ruminating on how and what I could have done differently connects to your topic rather well. I probably don't understand most of the data God is working from. The light is communication in its most basic form. It literally cuts through all of the darkness and confusion. When God says "Not Yet' ... "Soon"... "Go here." He's also just as capable to communicate.. "The person you will met on the street corner at the bus stop at 11:08:43 am knows about a job opportunity. You will rendezvous with them at 11:11:05 am as you try to find a seat on the crowded bus. The job tip will arrive at 11:13:28 am and you will be interviewing two days later wearing an interview outfit that I've arranged....."

We're talking to the Most Brilliant, the All Mighty, The Author of Life... the Word who was with the Father, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. We're also talking to our best friend, the Lover of our Souls.

WHen I'm talking to my daughter as her mother, she gets one perspective. When we're colloborators trying to have the most fun and productive summer we can possibly have, she gets another perspective from me.

You asked "Are you sharing the hope and love you have for our Father?" Yes. It's an active hope and an active love. Keeping that lighthouse going takes maintenance. There is energy and effort required to be full of hope and love. That energy and effort should be acknowledged. Too many of God's servants burn out. I would also like to add "Have you acknowledged the workers in His vineyard? "
It it so true about this, our Father being the Lighthouse and Jesus the Light while the HolySpirit is the Navigator.I also grateful for this discussion. For you will not know that God,our Father is the Lighthouse(SOURCE),and Jesus is the Light(VINE),that we are on and the HolySpirit is the Navigator(SUPPLIER) until you get in a situation and there's no one to help.please allowed me to just say this, please I am not saying this because i want to appease someone but it is true about me and my family.Right now schools are opening and there's no money to get our kids in now and again we have been asked to leave form where we are in this we are going through real trials and testing of times yet we are sorely depending on our God who is Awesome,Loving, and Fulfilling especially he who has to me not to do any secular work but fulled time with Him.
Desiree,

I believe God continues to guide me and challenge me as I seek his direction as how best to serve him and his kingdom. Juline is right that keeping the light lit takes work. Without prayer and being part of a community of believers, that light is not able to be shared. It is never our single actions but the leading of God and being sustained by others that enables us to joyfully serve.

Thanks for a thought provoking post.

Blessings, Rose
What a lovely lesson. (And could I ask where the gorgeous picture of the pink sunset on main page came from?)
