About the Group

Cure for the Common Life was the first book in the new Max Lucado Book Club. While the live book group opportunities have ended, it's not too late to participate in the conversation and continue your own private study. The discussion questions can be found below and we welcome continued input.

Also, each week we offered live book discussions, which are still available for viewing:

About the Book

Ever swung a baseball bat or paddled a Ping-Pong ball? If so, you know the oh-so-nice feel of the sweet spot. Life in the sweet spot rolls like the downhill side of a downwind bike ride. But you don’t have to swing a bat or a club to know this. What engineers give sports equipment, God gives you. A zone, a region, a life precinct in which you are made to dwell. He tailored the curves of your life to fit an empty space in his jigsaw puzzle. And life makes sweet sense when you find your spot.

But if you’re like 70 percent of working adults, you haven’t found it. You don’t find meaning in your work, or you don’t believe your talents are used. What can you do? You’re suffering from the common life, and you desperately need a cure.

In Cure for the Common Life Max offers practical tools for exploring and identifying your own uniqueness, motivation to put your strengths to work, and the perfect prescription for finding and living in your sweet spot for the rest of your life.

The format that we had worked well for me. Maybe we could make some changes just to see if we can get more people to join in. The only thing that I would like would be a book that centers around some scripture. I feel I need to be more into God's word...(just me) But, I would join in doing any one of Max's books.

As I said below I'd like to do 'Fearless'.  Timing doesn't matter too much as long as you add seven hours, which is the time difference between our two countries.  The timing for me was just right at it started at 8pm my time, but I realise it wasn't too good for a lot in America as it was lunch time, but please not after work there or I'll be having to stay up until the early hours to take part.

Thanks so much to all who have participated in the Cure for the Common Life book club both during the week and also during the Friday video chats. (Remember that if you missed a Friday video chat, you can watch past discussions, posted in the About the Group section above.)

We'd love to get your feedback. (Thanks Patricia and Steven for sharing yours.) Would you like to do another book club? Was the 6-week format about right or should it have been longer or shorter? When is the best time to do the video discussions? Which of Max's books would you like to read next?

Thanks again! We loved getting to spend time with you all!

Yes please, another book club book.  How about Fearless.  By the way, thank you for the discussions.  Living a fair way from my church and church collageues it was like having a Bible study without leaving home

Just wanted to say it has been fun learning with everyone. This was a new experience for me and would do it again. And thank you for all of you who shared with the group. :) I hope God has blessed you as much as He has me. :) I won't be at the live discussion (7/22)..I have a project to do this afternoon, a servanthood event..I have to start putting into practice what I've read.

Birgit, I'd like to give you the same advice as Patricia. Give it a try! Actually it is a great time to start. We are starting a new section this week, Section 3. And Chp 11, I think it is really good because it deals with how we handle the job we are presently in, good or bad. I do hope you give it a try and I see some of your comments posted. We are

Birgit, don't worry about it too much, a lot of the discussion is quite explanitory.  I work from home with a charity my husband and I started, so often have meetings, work in the field, accounts, admin and the kids to see to, so I am mostly a chapter of two behind, but I still manage to follow the comments and participate.  Try it for a week or two, you can do it.

I have been unable to keep up with the reading schedule so have been unable to participate. I won a free book, but by the time it arrived the discussion was already well under way.  I will read the book, as I do enjoy Max's writing, but will not be participating in the discussion.  :(

For the pass few weeks I've had alot going on and so I missed out on alot of the discussions and video chats, to be honest I wasn't sure if I should continue because I've missed so much. I must say that I really do enjoy coming reading the comments as well as shearing, this group is helping me to slowly look at myself/life in a whole different lite. So even though I still have alot of things going on I'm going to try my best to stay on tract.
