A Thought for Today

I've been encouraged by friends to write a "Thought for Today" on Facebook which I have been doing for the past 2 months.  They have been well received so I thought I'd offer them here as well.

Thoughts for Today!!

This is a group where I'm planning to share small "Thoughts for the day"! I am trying to be open to what God is saying to me and writing it down for others.  I'm not claiming that this wisdom is coming from God but I am hoping that it will be helpful to others.  I have been sharing on Facebook for a few months now and have had amazing feedback on them.

I also hope that others will feel free to share what God is saying to them or thoughts of their own that may be useful to share. The only things I would ask when sharing is that, in this group, it is for original thoughts of your own, not the thoughts of others. Though these thoughts could be based on something you've read or heard etc. The other thing I would ask is to keep them brief!

I also send out my thoughts via e-mail so if you would prefer to receive them that way just message me your e-mail with the subjust "Thoughts" and I'll add you to the growing list.

Our churches need to be a lots less full of judgement and moral superiority and a lot more full of grace, mercy and love. Let us not denounce and judge people but honour them, exalt them, comfort them, encourage them, care for them, equip them and pour out God's grace upon them.

Whatever comes across our path today we have the opportunity to see God's hand in it or not, we have the choice to be used by God or not, we have the chance to drawer near to God in that circumstance or not. May we all make wise decisions today.

Dear friends, I need to tell you (as if you didn't know this already) that although I love you I will fail you and let you down. I am fallible, weak, inconsistent and unreliable. You will have false expectations of me and I will misread situations and be unaware of some of your needs. I would never deliberately hurt you but I have no doubt that my actions or words will, at some point, cause you pain. For that I am truly sorry. I am not to be relied upon for I am human and everything that goes with that.

The best thing that I can do for you, as my friend, is to point you to God who will never let you down. God will always be there for you, He will never hurt you or be unaware of any of your needs. God is powerful, consistent and infallible. He can be completely relied upon. So, please, as my friend, look not to me for your needs - as I will continually let you down - but look to God who loves you more than you will ever know. He is your Heavenly Father and longs for you to trust Him and get to know Him more. He knows everything about you and loves and accepts you exactly as you are. Come and spend time with Him today - tell Him how you feel - tell Him your joys and fears, your pains and your heartache. He wants nothing better to help you in every possible way.

God longs for us to be real with Him. He is not disappointed with our anger or doubt. He hungers after reality. He doesn't want us to hide anything from him, after all He know it all anyway. God desires for us to be honest with Him and honest with ourselves. Let Him know how you really feel today!

Do not let people box you in to a certain way of relating to God or to serving Him. God relates to us all as individuals, He treats us all individually - He is not a "one size fits all" kind of God. Likewise, we all relate to God differently - we all have differing relationships with Him, we all serve Him in different ways. Do not just accept people's advice on how you should be serving God or how your relationship with Him should be playing itself out. They may be right but they may just be applying the model of their relationship with God and their way of serving God onto you.  David threw off the "armour" of Saul's way of dealing with things and with God and served God in his own individual way. Let us have the courage to do likewise!

WAIT! Wait in Jerusalem. Wait in expectation! Wait in quiet and stillness. Do not preempt, do not run ahead. It will come. Do not leave. Do not doubt. Have anticipation in your hearts. Wait and I will send it. Wait and you will be filled. Wait and the Holy Spirit will come. Wait and you will have all He has to offer. WAIT!

Hi Everyone

Well, it's been quite a journey. I'm sure all have you have been informed that as of the end of this month the Max Lucado Community will be closing down. It was with great sadness that I heard the news, as I'm sure it was with many of you. I have built up some great friendships through this community, learn a huge amount and been drawn closer to God by many of you.  So, firstly I'd like to thank you all for getting involved here, your friendship, wisdom, patience and faith. I hope many of us will stay in touch. For me the best way to do this would be through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AThoughtfor2day or my blog  http://achristianthoughtfortoday.wordpress.com/ I'm sure we'll also connect through the new things that the Lucado team are launching in the near future.

Thanks for journeying with me - I've really enjoyed it and much appreciate your friendships.

Every Possible Blessing

Nathan

A Hymn of Praise

Nothing can compare to knowing God
Nothing fills the gaping hole like He does
Nothing do I desire more than knowing Him
Nothing more makes my heart to leap and sing

Everything would I give up for this
Everything and nothing would I miss
Everything is second to knowing Him
Everything I offer to my King.

Our role as church is not just to give people an experience of the manifest presence of God but to create a habitation for God to come, to rest and to stay.

Our faith is built in patience and endurance, it is tested in the fires of adversity, but it is truly solidified and strengthened by the manifest presence of God.
