Hi there

I'm in the middle of writing an article for people who are starting out on an adventure.  These are people who are begining to pray for the first time.  I want to put together a top ten tips for those starting to pray.

What would you include in this list?

All ideas really appreciated.

Prayers are always answered, not necessarily on our schedule but rather on His schedule.
I would think that first off, the first thing when you pray should be gratitude for some blessing bestowed.  Then, kind of circular - pray for friends and family, and for protection for all, and then your worries/concerns/needs.  And then finish with gratitude again.  That's kind of what I have been trying to do.  Showing gratitude for blessings already received, to me anyway, doesn't make it feel so selfish for when you pray in fear or despair.
Look to Jesus and how He said to pray as in Matthew 6 and Luke 11 and not to exalt oneself because of their faith, but humbly seeking God's will for the situation or the need.  Not asking for what we think is best but what He knows is best for us because who knows better than the creator of all things.  Also always inlcude sincere praises and thanks because no matter how bad our situation is or looks, how much more thankful we should be that He's always there for us.
Don't know how to pray or what to pray for, think of the word JOY. Think 1st about Jesus and all He has done for you. Begin your prayer by worshiping Him.  Secondly think about & pray for others. Lastly lift up those things that are regarding you.

Hi Nathan.  Hope all has been going well.  Prayer is a great topic.  First would be to study the Lords prayer, next would be to note His practice in prayer.

My brother recently started preaching again, and thankfully the sermons are available on line.  I hadn't heard him preach since  about 1970, as we are separated by over a thousand miles.  One of his lessons recently (last Sunday night?) was on prayer.  You might enjoy it as much as I did.
